The Tourist Attractions in Boston, MA You Should Visit

These folks can also partake in a boat ride out to the ocean for whale watching for $44.95. The aquarium is open year round with extended summer hours. Throughout the summer months, the aquarium is open from 9 AM – 6 PM. The other parts of the year the aquarium is open only until 5 PM.

Having a great many galleries throughout the metro area, it’s not at all unpredictable that still another of the top tourist attractions in Boston is the MFA (the Museum of Fine Arts). Located in the Fenway area and open most days of the week, this gallery features modern art in addition to traditional art pieces. The alternative guide to beautiful Copenhagen

If you hadn’t yet been told, I’ll tell you: Copenhagen is a wonderful city!

Most people think of The Little Mermaid and The Tivoli Gardens when you talk about the Danish capital or Denmark, but there is actually a lot more to this impressive capital than children’s stories and addictive pastry!

I’m a Danish guy, who has lived here for almost 10 years, and decided I should share some of the cool activities and sights here that you will not encounter in many of the travel guides.

Ok, let’s get to my 5 picks for alternative sights and activities in the Danish capital.

1. Parks: The city is spoiled with parks. If you dwell in this city you are seldom more than five minutes away from a cosy park. If you are spending several days here, then have a walk in Kongens Have (Kings Garden), HC Orsteds Parken, Botanisk Have (Botanical Garden), or Frederiksberg Have. They are all awesome for tanning or drinking a cold beer – that is what the Copenhageners will be doing if the weather is sunny.

2. Norrebro: Norrebro is the most ethnically mixed neighborhood in the city and has a very distinct feel to it. There are some really trendy streets here for shopping, looking at art or going out. The streets we recommend are Jaegersborgsgade, Blagardsgade, Elmegade, and the cemetery, Assistentens Kirkegaard, where Soren Kierkegaard is buried. Also stop by the newly opened ‘Superkilen’ – a really impressive red painted square.

3. Water: Copenhagen is a city by the sea, and it is probably one of the few larger cities where you can swim in the harbor areas – it also has a really cool beach. Islands Brygge is one of the up-and-coming neighborhoods in the city, and it has a hugely popular stretch of grass where people are tanning and chilling out, while going in and out of the ‘pool’ in the harbor. If you rate the beach higher, then go to the excellent beach park at ‘Amager Strandpark’. We are in Scandinavia, of course, so sadly we will not see 175 days of beach weather every year, but we make sure to enjoy the summer, when it is there.

4. Malmo: Wait a second, isn’t Malmo in Sweden? It sure is, but it’s just a 20 minute ride in the train over Oresund. A lot of people in Copenhagen consider the Swedish city as a suburb and it is an obvious choice for a day-trip of shopping and sightseeing. Costs are slightly lower in Sweden, so that is really a great motivation to go, as the Danish capital is known for its high prices.

5. Vesterbro neighborhood: Another area that used to be quite rough, and famous for the red light district, but now a hipster haven with great shopping and cafes. The main activity is on Istedgade – a street famous for the sex shops and prostitutes in its glory days. It still exists, but is now primarily confined to a few streets close to the train station.

What To Do In Doha Qatar

It is really disturbing that you have not yet charted out your itinerary for your <a target='_blank' href="http://bestflights.co.za/internationalflights/qatar/doha"Doha, Qatar trip, which is fast approaching. You are actually an alien to the country since you are going there for the first time. You are utterly confused to decide what places you should visit. There will not be a problem as far as you work on these ideas before your journey and try to make it an unforgettable one.

If you love shopping then paying a visit to the markets is highly recommended. The Omani market and the Souq Waqif market of Doha are famous for unique and authentic things and memorabilia, which you find here, will not be available at any other place. You can also go in for the City Center Shopping Mall. This being a huge market you can spend the entire day here.

A sports junkie can enjoy sailing and windsurfing in Qatar. There are beaches near Doha so if you are up to these challenging sports, you can join a sailing club or hire boats from sailing academies near your hotel. There are also establishments that offer sand boarding and skiing for a fee. You could also pay to join a day trip to Doha Bay.

Fishing in the crystal blue seas in Doha will be certainly a thrilling experience. You can hire a boat if you wish to enjoy yourself. There are also fishing trips coordinated by several tour operators and if you want you can very well join one of them to make fishing more comfortable.

Doha has grand pearl diving spots where you can have a wonderful diving experience but never forget to try out scuba diving also. Before going for diving, visit Al Thakira and Al Wakra where the renowned mangrove swamps are located.

If water activities are not your thing, you can enjoy land activities such as horse riding. The Sealine Beach Resort offers affordable package in horseback riding so you may want to check it out as well. You can also take riding lessons at Al Shaqab Riding Club if you have time to do so.

Doha Golf Club is open for people other than the members. So you can benefit yourself by trying golf out there. The atmosphere at this place will smoothen you as you get a break from the desert view.

Of course, what is the essence of travelling without getting a dose of fun and entertainment? You are in the right spot. Doha boasts of many bars and clubs where you will find the fun and entertainment you are looking for. You can simply dine-in and drink at these bars but you can also sing, dance, and enjoy the night away. Most of these establishments are open until late midnight. Some are even open for 24 hours! Some of the well-known entertainment places in Doha include Rydges, Garvies European Club, and Qube.

The view from the Dhow restaurant is breathtaking and the traditional Qatari food mouthwatering, it is not that you get to eat such delicious food on a daily basis. Besides, the play of lights on the shimmering waters calls for some photography. The scenic beauty of the bay needs to be captured on camera.

These are just some ideas of things to do in Doha, Qatar. Be not afraid to try anything of the things mentioned above to make your stay fun and meaningful.

5 Reasons To Never Visit Venice

In 1999, I went on a whirlwind trip around Italy through my high school. It was a very interesting trip and is what kicked off my love of travel. I mean, how could it not? It’s Italy after all!

The first weekend of our trip was in Rome/The Vatican. It was Easter Weekend, and it was quite a sight to see so many people on a religious pilgrimage. After seeing all the grand sites (and there are a lot of them) in this area, we traveled all over the rest of the country, including to my least favorite place – Venice.

I don’t care what you’ve heard about Venice and how amazing it is – I just didn’t like the place. Generally I like to write destination guides for my favorite places to tell you how good they are, but not this time. The following are five good reasons to steer clear of Venice.

1) Since smells can make a bigger impact on people than almost anything else in life, let’s start there. Try to imagine what Venice smells like…. garlic and basil? Hardly. Maybe you’re thinking it smells like the sea at least, with all it’s water? Not quite. It smells like diesel and garbage. All the boat-traffic means constant diesel fumes permeating the air, and the canals are also their sewer system. So unless you think the smell of a train-depot mixed with a septic tank is appealing, you might want to take this town off the itinerary.

2) Venice is a tourist magnet. Look up “tourist trap” on Virtual Tourist’s guide to Venice and it’ll show you a picture of the whole city. And the locals are a little tired of it all. This notion of grumpy locals who are sick of tourists cemented itself in my mind when our group was standing on the Bridge of Sighs and someone came barging through, pushing girls and boys aside and blowing a whistle. We asked our guide (after she finished yelling and waving her hands at him) if he was some form of Police Officer. Nope, just another one of the locals that was so sick of tourists they actually carry whistles on them to scare and trick people into getting out of their way. Not exactly a friendly welcome.

3) The pigeons are all over the city. Now, this might not sound so bad, but these pigeons are more annoying than seagulls. They’re quite a nuisance, and even when they’re not being annoying they still can ruin your day. The whole place is covered in pigeon guano, and you’re almost guaranteed to get some on you. Gross.

4) Traveling to a small city with a bazillion tourists means one thing – vendors. Everyone is jockeying for position on the streets to sell touristy crap to people just trying to enjoy their vacation. I don’t like it in Vegas, I don’t like it in Chicago, and I didn’t like it in Venice either. I like to avoid places that are too touristy just for this reason, and for me that means steering clear of Venice altogether.

5) High tides (acqua alta) are something that any coastal city has to deal with, but Venice’s have been getting worse and worse over the centuries. It sits on stone slabs that in turn sit on soil, and the soil has been sinking. To make matters even worse, the sea level around Venice has been rising as well. This combination has led to flooded streets anytime a decent storm blows up. And lets not forget that the canals are their sewer system. Not an ideal vacation when you’re walking through sewage-laden flooded streets.

One of many considerations for the cruise ports of call which might be stops on any cruise that you just take is how you are going to determine or get pleasure from that cruise destination. These are only a short list of the types of tours that are offered at cruise port destinations.

Part of deciding on what you want to do in a port is to research that destination. Then you will know what there is available to see and do.

I have done all three ways of touring at cruise port destinations. My experience with staying on the ship was that it was quiet and not crowded as most of the passengers get off at the ports. I could relax, layout, or exercise and the food was great as always. But for me I felt I had missed out on something important by not being able to experience that destination.

I am split on the other two. If the price is right and there are several things to see that I can’t do on my own, I take the ship tour. You have to remember that I have traveled all over the world for years so independent travel for me is comfortable in a lot of the destinations. There are destinations where it is unsafe to travel on your own and in these instances I would definitely always take the ship tour. There are also places that the organized guided tours give more information or have access to visit and tour places that you as an independent would not have access to.

I choose independent touring when the things I want to see are close to the ship such as shopping along the dock area. There have been places that I have arranged for tours ahead of time for cruise port destinations from private tour companies especially if there is something specific that I am interested in doing that is not offered by the cruise tours.

I suggest that you pre-book you ship tours or at least book them the first day that you are on the ship. Many of the popular ones sell out quickly. In an upcoming blog I will explain how to find and book the tours offered by the cruise lines.
