Why go on a Cruise?

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

Whether it is a 3 star, 4 star or a luxury 5 star cruise you’re boarding, the perks and activities on a cruise are almost endless, with something in store for young, old and everyone in between. Kids are definitely spoilt for choice on ships, but it is important to take the ages into consideration before you book as some cruise liners have more specific activities for teens compared to toddlers.

The recreational activities on the Carnival Cruise Line, for example, are inclined towards teens, but there are a handful of perks for kids under the age of 9 as well. The expansive outdoor pool, large water park, 10 whirlpools and 22 foot screen for movies is most inviting on Carnival, followed by a host of recreational fun divided into categories depending on age.

Ages between 2 and 5 are normally catered for in the toddlers groups and will get to do things like art, coloring and singing to name a few. Kids between 6 and 8 are normally seen as the junior category and that get to take part in excellent activities like talent shows, karaoke and scavenger hunts. The teens – and the pre teens – have a mountain of things to do. Many of the activities are water based in the host of pools that are aboard all the modern cruise vessels, but there is also multiplayer computer tournaments and energy sapping adventures like rock wall climbing and sometimes even ice skating, depending on the ship.

Anytime is good to take a break from the bustle of everyday life, and setting sail on a cruise liner allows you to do just that! Most people returning from a cruise claim that they achieved a general sense of overall well-being as it is one of the most relaxing ways to vacation. For most passengers, the idea of sailing through clear waters and visiting exotic sites is an absolute thrill complimented with endless hours of pampering. Some of the more well knows names in the cruise industry are Cunard, Princess Cruises, P & O and the Holland America Line, Carnival and Royal Caribbean. And when it comes to relaxation, all are appointed with state of the art spa facilities.

Cruise companies have a number of ways to relax, but one of the most common is spas. These can be taken on board in most cases and some also offer land based options. The on board option is undoubtedly the easiest and different companies go for different options like Eastern Traditional style, high tech cardio options and general fitness centers. If you are interested in taking full advantage of these kind of facilitates, it is best if you can find a package with all this included – which really is most of them. Add to this the options of multiple indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpools, and you will find it hard to to enjoy yourself.

If a little adventure is more your fancy, then you will be looking forward to things like shore excursions to your ports of call, maybe a hand or 2 at your on board casino, deck games, ice skating, rock climbing, water slides or even on board surfing. Be sure to look up exactly what facilities are offered on your potential ships before you make your booking to make sure the options fit with your desires.

Action is often an unlimited component on many cruise lines starting with Wii consoles streamed through large screens, special game kiosks for children, cooking classes and the Royal Caribbean’s full size boxing ring to name a few. That’s not all; there’s also surf and theme parks, innovative yoga, extensively kitted out gyms and skating rinks to explore.

Dining is probably one of the best all-inclusive perks of cruises, and although it is free in most instances, there are a few packages that do require you to pay for snacks and beverages. Whatever the case maybe, the dining options on a ship include succulent world class dishes that are prepared by renowned chefs from different parts of the globe.

In the last ten years, cruising has become the fastest growing segment of the travel industry. Due to this we have seen both the amount and quality of cruise-liners improve dramatically. Ships on a scale never dreamed of before are being commissioned every year with some carrying as many as 4,500 people. They are no longer just large ships that traverse the seas to get from one place to another, but rather, regal floating cities with destinations set amongst the most beautiful places in the world.

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

When you’re searching for wonderful and unique vacations, if you want to experience beauty of mother nature herself, discover traditional places or even go to some fine British restaurants or pubs – Edinburgh is a right choice. This city has such a rich and fascinating past that you would be amazed. The best part is that almost all its impressive places can be accessed in a walking distance. Also, you will find there hospitable and happy individuals and take a role in unique Scottish tradition.

In seventeenth century it was captured by the English. New district was build at that times called New Town. A lot of historians say that it was made to show superiority over the Scotland. Since then Edinburgh was a location in which the world’s all scientists and artists would get together to work. No wonder so many well known people lived or come from here and even today: Adam Smith – philosopher and pioneer of national economy, Sir Alexander Fleming – found first antibiotic drug. This collection of people continues endlessly… it is endless.

If you feel like you want to know something related to Scotland and its lifestyle, book your flight to Edinburgh and you will not have regrets. You shouldn’t be shocked if you find a men wearing dress – in Scotland known as ‘kilt’ – typical outfit of this land. Also, it is rather possible to see guy standing on the corner of main roads and play on bagpipes (one more aspect of Scottish culture). Even more to discover for visitors than just this, though. Each step in this city has a hidden meaning, history. Each building and each restaurant and pub has an excellent value for a possible visitor. When visiting the centre of the city you will often approach the little glass-case which is where you can read about history of the area you are passing by. Tourist-friendly city. No worries about that.

Edinburgh is well positioned on the map and it determines its lure a lot. With the castle on the hill – ideally in the core of this city, Calton Hill in the east, plus the Arthur Seat on southern east areas – it can be thrilling view. Almost everywhere you would move you will see lots of trees and bushes and that’s as a result of famous Scottish weather conditions – full of rain and winds. Even though, local people never grumble about weather being wet. In reality, they made it their one more hallmark. You really should not be scared of rain whilst in Scotland. Nearly all stores offer you any kinds of outfits for rainy time. Several days in there and you will laugh of it.

Should you ever researched for terms related to Edinburgh online, you must have found the information about events that take place there. There are actually couple throughout the year but the most popular is Fringe Festival. It goes for over three weeks. Arranged together they make the city unique when it involves festivals. And one can find more… Hogmanay, Beltane Fire Festival. We simply cannot come across moment in the calendar year that absolutely nothing is happening. It makes this city a rather popular tourist destination. Tourist may be overwhelmed by amount of attractions. Museums, shops, restaurants, pubs on nearly each and every minor avenue. Everyone can choose something that suits one’s likings.

A great deal of locations for all human beings deserve to be seen. Edinburgh is certainly one of prime cities to see. You won’t regret it. Wonderful people, fantastic location, interesting background and nice people. The expand of people in the city at summer is remarkable. This is a good proof of how interesting Edinburgh is then. When Traveling in Australia, is it Better to Hire a Campervan on Buy a Car?

Wednesday, January 16th, 2013

Not sure whether to hire a campervan to tour Australia in or buy a car? Well here are some facts that might help you decide.

Long term campervan rental brings with it lower daily rates, so the longer your journey, the cheaper it gets. Basically every campervan or motorhome rental company will include roadside assistance in their price so you are covered in the event of a breakdown. In most cases, the campervan hire company will not mind you picking the camper up in one city, but dropping it off in another and also in most cases, if you are not happy with your campervan, you will be able to exchange it for another one.

Be aware though, when renting there can be hidden costs so make sure you read all the contract details carefully. Also keep in mind that all camper hire companies will charge a security deposit, some take this off your credit card at the time of charging it and hold on to it for the length of the rental, this money, therefore, will not be available for you to spend whilst you are traveling in the campervan.

Whilst procuring a vehicle may seem like it can save you money, it can be a risky thing to do with that cash. Obviously, your cash is invested in the vehicle so you can’t use it on fun. If the vehicle turns out to be a junker, then you don’t get your money back and it is wasted (cars only get about $300AUD in scrap) so that is not exactly saving money. Furthermore, a certificate of road worthiness is required to both sell and annually register a car in Australia. If the registration expires whilst you are driving it you will be responsible for the approximately $600AUD registration and also all repairs required to get the road worthy cert. If you get the car from fellow travelers you bet your bottom dollar that they have spent as little as possible to keep it running and just moved it on as soon as they have finished with it. Inevitably, the lack of maintenance will result in a break-down and if this occurs 200km from the nearest town you could find yourself in trouble for both health and money. You will need to think ahead on if you should get a road side assistance membership (that you might not use) or pay for towing if you end up on the side of the road.

Obviously, the nearer you get to your end date, the less the purchase offers will be to take the car off your hands – another likelihood that you will get a lot less back in your pocket before taking off.

Overall, campervan hire in Australia can be quite affordable and there are camper rental companies to suit any budget. No matter how many miles you are going to cover, you can be assured that if you are doing it in a rented campervan, you will have the piece of mind of knowing what you are going to be paying, and that you will be covered in the case of a breakdown.

Two North American Cruise Destinations

Sunday, December 16th, 2012

A lot of people have outdated, or completely unfounded views on cruises. However, the modern cruise is a great way to explore a location away from the built-up cities. You can take in magnificent coastlines, scenic coastal towns and villages and discover ethereal locations and exotic flora and fauna. What could be better than voyaging through the unfamiliar, travelling through the sun and the sea whilst experiencing solicitous service and meeting likeminded people? We’ve chosen two destinations that we think are ideal for cruises:

Marvellous Mexico

Mexico has many different cruise routes along its thousands of miles of coastline. Traditionally itineraries head for the Mexican Riviera, Baja and Cozumel. The old town areas of Baja allow holidaymakers to mix cultural exploration with coastal scenery and incredible volcanic landscapes.

There are a number of underwater national parks and Mayan archaeological sites in Cozumel, near the Yucatan. Mexican cruises are incredibly popular, despite the country’s socially and politically tempestuous nature. The locations visited are generally very safe for travellers.

Hawaii Cruise

Hawaii is one of the most friendly island archipelagos in the world. Although it belongs to the USA, Hawaii is a world-away from the traditional image of the country. Oahu and Maui both provide a rich choice of things to do and islanders are very welcoming.

The volcanic features and temperate climate are perhaps Hawaii’s most distinguishing features. However, the waters are great here too: diving is a popular pursuit and there are plenty of opportunities to indulge in whale-watching. The fauna might be intriguing, but Hawaii has an equally fascinating culture which is worth explore. Everyone should experience a traditional luau at some point in their lives. However, there’s nothing quite like stepping off a cruise ship and being greeted by coconut-clothed locals, who will present you with a lei, or garland necklace, before you party the night away.

Top five amazing things to do while self-catering in Scotland

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Scotland is a popular place to visit all year round. Regardless of whether the weather is with you or against you’ll be overwhelmed by the vibrancy of history and culture you’ll find there. With this in mind here is the top five stunning places to pay a visit through the eyes of a Scot living there.

1) The castles. Wherever you head in Scotland it’s going to have a castle nearby. Central scotland is no different and the main ones to visit would be Edinburgh Castle, Stirling Castle, Linlithgow Palace, Tantallon Castle to be truthful the list is endless so just visit Historic Scotlands Website or also the National Trust for Scotland.

2) Edinburgh. There is loads of things to explore and do in Edinburgh. Here’s a short list of some that spring to mind. Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, The Scottish Government, The Royal Mile, The National Museum of Scotland, The Scottish Art Galleries (three of), Arthurs Seat (it’s an extinct volcano in the centre of the city), Mary Kings Close, Dynamic Earth and The Camera Obscura. It’s also worth taking one of the numerous dusk lit tours on the Royal Mile where you’ll be entertained by tales of ghosts, ghouls and skulduggery from Edinburgh’s past. One of the best times of year (and probably the most expensive for accommodation) is in August when the city bursts with theatre groups, comedians, artists and just general exhibitionists. This is known as the world famous Edinburgh Fringe which way back in time was a reaction to the more official Edinburgh Festival which also runs in August. At the end of the Festival there is a massive fireworks display over the castle which is absolutely free to see from nearly everywhere in the city.

3) Glasgow. Biggger than Edinburgh, Glasgow has a much more industrial heritage and now boasts some astounding tourist destinations. In 2014 it’ll also be hosting the Commonwealth Games so the city is now sporting a number of world class venues related to this. It’s also got the newly opened Museum of Transport as well as a host of other attractions such as the Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum in Kelvingrove, Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art and Scotland Street School, a former Charles Rennie Mackintosh School preserved as the city’s Museum of Education.

4) Stirling and Bannockburn. Ok I’ve cheated a little just to get both in. Stirling has a fine castle and old town and then just down the hill you have Stirling Bridge (where the legendary – at least in Scotland – Battle of Stirling Bridge was fought by William Wallace). Then down the road you have Bannockburn, where again there was a notable battle this time fought by Robert the Bruce. Significantly the Scots beat the English (rarely done).

5) Linlithgow. With it’s historic palace (reputed birth place of Mary Queen of Scots) and large loch, Linlithgow is a wonderful day visit with nice coffee shops and pubs. It’s also got Beecraigs Country Park which can basically be explained as an outdoor delight.

So there you have it, just a short list of some fantastic places to visit while on holiday in central Scotland. So the next time you’re taking a vacation why not drop by and have a wee whisky.
