Transport: Cars Busses And Trains

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Cars busses and trains are various form of transport which are now used widely within the modern world. They exist in every country on the planet and in the last century or so have basically revolutionized the way people travel. The old methods of the past have become more or less obsolete, although in less developed worlds horse drawn carriages are still used.

The very first car was the Ford Model T made by a man named Henry Ford at the very start of the twentieth century, which caused a widespread stir in the United States. After this, the product took off considerably and basically changed the history of transportation forever. Of course before this railroads had already existed, the first ones appearing in Britain and were overrun with steam and coal powered locomotives. Many railroad networks now exist in countless countries across the globe with some boasting superior infrastructure.

Rail infrastructure differs in different parts of the world and is as extensive as the population generally needs it. Smaller countries such as Ireland do not have sch a large amount of railroads. In Germany, however, a country which needs to sustain such a big population has a rather impressive network.

In the 1960s railroads were torn up by the government because they believed that people wouldn’t use trains anymore as car transport was becoming the more preferred method. This was proved to be quite wrong indeed, as trains and buses still carry millions of passengers each year.

Trains themselves will run on a set course which can change at certain intervals along the track. The same can be said for smaller trams and underground railways. Buses, however, tend to be somewhat more flexible and are able to change their route at no great expense. An underground such as either the Tube in London, England, or the famous U-Bahn systems which run in Germany are efficient ways of city transport.

Travel done on the Subway or the Tube is underground, so it leaves a lot more room at the top, also resulting in less traffic. There are cities in Germany, such as Essen, where the city centers are completely free of trams and buses.

The underground still continues beneath the city in places like this. The only difference is that there are still stations dotted at strategic points but they take up very little of the city’s living space. This provides a very fast and efficient way of getting out to the city’s suburbs. This is also because, due to the lack of congestion and traffic with the underground system, travel time isn’t that long.

Have a look at our website to learn everything there is to know about rail and bus transport, today. You can also find information about a reputable supplier of Gold coast vehicle accessories and Gold Coast roof racks, now.

Orchestrating the Whales and the Whale Watching Captain in Alaska

Friday, September 30th, 2011

My friend’s mom, Linda was over visiting with me. Her son, Jimmy, my friend, who was overseas in the military and she was over to share stories with me about him. She began to ask me what I have been doing with my summer as we were exchanging stories, and I told her I was a whale watch captain. I told her I loved it and was having a great time in southeast Alaska showing people the whales. At that point we began telling stories and laughing of whales watching and laughing and laughing until she told me this one. We had to share this with everyone, I told her and so here it is, most of it anyways. For the rest of it…maybe I will share another time, it gets way too funny…for now.

Hungry the humpback whales were in southeast Alaska on a summer day. They where feeding all over the place with a technique called lunge feeding. I was bored with not much to do so I thought of getting closer to the whales. In my skiff I went out to get a closer look where I dropped my hydrophone over the side of my boat so I could hear the sounds of the whales talking and such. As I listened I could hear the bubbles and then the unmistakable stun scream of the alpha male, EEEEEEEEEEEEE. The sound was so deafening. The sound or the call meant that in seconds mouths of hungry humpback whales with giant pink tongues would open and lunge to the surface falling on top of each other as they come out of the ocean to feast. I knew it was time to throw my arms up in the air as I anticipated and there they were. After that I motored back a bit since I might be in the way and waited. Under the water, the last seventeen tails disappeared. I waited and waited and ten minutes later I was ready for the encore. EEEEEEEEEEEE the whales said, they were saying it was about to happen, and so in pure joy, I threw my arms up again.

Unbeknownst to me, a sailboat had blown up behind me with a very excited crew. Harv and Marv had taken a few friends out for a photo safari. They watched as this woman threw up her hands time and again and with each raise of her arms, the whales surfaced. Later, they were having some refreshments at a local eatery. They laughed as they recounted the days’ great whale watching. And they were overheard saying, “there was this woman in a tiny skiff orchestrating the whales, it was amazing!!”

I cannot take credit for any whales bubble feeding, I used to be a music teacher. Complimenting and nice to be with the whales on a day like that.

Anyways, I love all the stories of whale watching here. Living here with people like Linda make it a real joy. They range from a sailboat sinking from a breaching whale to people getting whale snot on them, oh, and how can I forget…and of course the umm, special doctor for males.

We have tons more amazing whale watching tales to come so come visit us often or come with us to create yours in alaska.

The American Cup began in 1851 and was dominated by the New York Yacht Club until 1983. Tips on how to make a holiday more affordable

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Holidays are a great way of relieving some stress and for many a one or two week holiday is what they look forward to all year round. With things like groceries and petrol rising in price though, it has become a struggle for some people to still getaway for their hard-earned break. Spending more money in other areas doesn’t necessarily have to stop people going on holiday though as there are lots of ways to find a holiday for cheaper than originally anticipated.

It can really help to make a holiday cheaper if you can go at short notice and you are flexible on where you would like to go. Late deals are holiday places which need to be filled and so they are often offered at a price much cheaper than they would otherwise be. Although you won’t be able to choose exactly where and when you go, there is still some choice and there will still be some amazing destinations available.

Shopping around is one of the best ways of finding a cheaper holiday. The worst thing to do is to buy the first holiday you come across. A lot of travel agents have similar or identical holidays which vary a huge amount in cost. By shopping around you could find yourself getting a better holiday than that first one you found but for much cheaper.

Look for holidays in many different places. Travel agents can often be more expensive than booking a holiday online. There are lots of websites which offer holiday finders; these find the exact holiday you want and bring up the cheapest one available after checking hundreds of different travel agents.

One method which most people don’t know about is to book the holiday as early as you possibly can. Not only does this give you more time to pay the holiday off but some agents offer early booking incentives such as discounts or additional free days. Ask multiple travel agents if they offer such incentives and then make their competitors aware of what you are offered to see if they can better it.

3. What holidays in Tenerife have in store for you

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Of the volcanic group of islands known as the Canary Islands, found in the Atlantic Ocean, Tenerife is the biggest. It is an incredibly busy tourist destination, and if you look at what this island can offer visitors it is not hard to see why. This article is a brief look at what it is about this island that makes it such a great place to visit.

Initially many are drawn to this island because of its spectacular, and very consistent, climate. In the summer you can enjoy scorching sun and long warm evenings, while in the winter though the temperature drops, it is still warm and sunny. Whatever time of year you fancy getting away from it all, then, Tenerife is a safe option for a sunny holiday. And there are many different ways you can enjoy this weather. In each resort across the island you will find glorious white and gold sands, but also plenty of water sports and snorkelling opportunities on offer, making Tenerife a great choice for a beach holiday.

If you have children with you then you will not be at a loss of how to keep them happy. Across the island there are many theme parks, water parks and nature reserves that will give any child that sense of adventure they crave. One of the newest water parks to open up is the Siam Park which prides itself on being the most exciting water park in Europe, with tonnes of exciting rides set in a consistent theme of ancient Thailand.

History buffs will not be left miserable either. There are structures on the island that in 1991, courtesy of the famous explorer Thor Heyerdahl, were discovered to share certain similarities with the famous pyramids found in Peru and Mexico. Now it is generally thought that these are ancient pyramids left by an ancient civilisation. They are now called the Guimar Pyramids and are a must see for those interested in human history.

Add to all this the incredible Spanish cuisine found in the many bars and restaurants dotted around the island, and it is clear that Tenerife has a lot to offer those who holiday there. It is also very easy to visit the other Canary Islands from there too.

Mumbai: the old and the new

Friday, September 30th, 2011

The metropolis of Mumbai, which used to go by the name of Bombay, is the capital of the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city of all of India, and in the top ten most populous of the world, containing an eye watering 20.5 million people. It is supposed to have the highest gross domestic product of any city in the South, West or Central Asian area. But that is only half of what makes Mumbai special, for it also has a very long, and very interesting history.

The divide is relatively consistent, with the more modern and business oriented section in South Mumbai, and the more historical area, and where people tend to live, in Mumbai Suburban District. Obviously there is history to be seen in the architecture of South Mumbai, which bears a strong British resemblance from its days as a British colony, but it is relatively recent history and in most other respects this district is distinctly modern.

The natural beauty and historical import of the Suburban District couldn’t be more different to the South Mumbai area. Historically important places include: the Mount Mary Church; the Mahakali caves; Essel world; Water Kingdom; Kanheri Caves; Film City; and the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. Through this area you can also find the Mithi River running. This is where you go to find the old part of Mumbai.

One of the most famous of these sites is the Gandhi National Park, which has been mentioned in writing as far back as the 4th century BCE, but obviously under a different name. In the middle of this beautiful place the Kanheri Caves were a centre of learning and for Buddhists of the time. It was actually build between the 9th and the 1st century BCE by Buddhist monks.

This clash of the old and new found in the metropolis of Mumbai surely makes it a place of great interest and one certainly worthy of a visit. If this meeting of the modern world with the ancient appeals, then Mumbai is the city to visit.

What is the best time to visit Menorca?

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands of Spain that takes its name from being the smaller island that Majorca. It is a popular tourist destination for many British, and other European visitors, but like with many places there are certain times that are better to visit than others. The climate is pretty much your typical Mediterranean climate, ranging from mild winters, to hot summers, so visiting at any time of year is good in terms of weather. But some months have a lot more going on.

The best time to visit Menorca is between the months of May and October. Though the busiest tourist season falls within this period, even at the busiest times this smaller island draws nowhere near as many visitors as Majorca does, making it a pleasant and stress free place to visit at any time of year. The reason it is good to visit in these months, however, is the celebrations that occur.

Every year for centuries now the inhabitants of this island have celebrated their history and culture by putting on grand festivals, offering a great opportunity for visitors to experience the best of Menorcan food, wine, music and culture in general. Perhaps the most famous party is that celebrated in Ciutadella, celebrating the patron saint San Joan. It takes place on the 23rd of June and lasts up to four days.

The celebration, as with many of the others, involves a great spectacle of people marching and dancing or people riding on horses while the crowd gather to watch. Then on the evening of the first day the locals engage in a battle where hazelnuts are thrown at each other, filling the streets. The Menorcan horse is always a prominent theme in the celebrations.

This period sees many other festivals that visitors can get in involved with, like the Festes de la mare de Du de Grcia, which is just as amazing to behold. It is these vibrant displays of culture and pride that make these months the best for visiting Menorca.
